How To Schedule Posts On Bluesky (Beginner’s Guide)

Want to learn how to schedule posts on Bluesky? I’ve got you covered.

Unfortunately, native scheduling isn’t an option with Bluesky yet. However, you can still create and schedule Bluesky posts in advance using a third-party scheduling tool.

In this post, we’ll look at how to do that using SocialBee. I’ll walk you through the process step-by-step. Plus, I’ll also share some advanced tips for more efficient scheduling.

What is Bluesky?

Bluesky is an exciting new text-based social network that’s growing rapidly.

bluesky

It’s a lot like X (Twitter) in that users can share posts of up to 300 characters long, and other users can like, repost, or comment on them.

But what makes Bluesky different from X—and most other social media platforms for that matter—is that it’s fully decentralized. That means that no single person, company, or entity controls the network.

Instead, users can choose different servers to host their content and retain full control over their data and audience.

Another one of Bluesky’s USPs is that it’s one of the only platforms to offer ‘algorithmic freedom’.

Unlike traditional platforms, Bluesky users can build their own custom algorithms to determine what kind of content gets shown on their feeds or deploy custom algorithms built by other users from a public marketplace.

Bluesky was created by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and initially launched as an invite-only network in 2023, before opening up its doors to everyone earlier this year.

Over 23 million people have signed up since then, launching Bluesky to the top of the download charts, and making it a serious competitor to X..

Benefits of scheduling posts in advance

Scheduling posts to Bluesky in advance has a lot of advantages compared to manual posting. Here are some of the key benefits.

  • Efficiency. Manage your time more effectively. Plan, create, and schedule all your Bluesky content for the week/month/year in one sitting, then let it roll out automatically, rather than having to constantly interrupt your day to share a post.
  • Cohesion. Map out your content strategy ahead of time, ensuring a balanced mix of topics, themes, or formats. This big-picture approach helps you maintain consistency and cohesion. By planning everything at once, you can create a more deliberate and strategic content flow.
  • Cross-posting. Scheduling tools like SocialBee go beyond Bluesky. They act as a centralized hub for managing multiple accounts across multiple social media channels. So you can schedule the same post to Bluesky, Threads, X, Instagram, etc. in one go without having to juggle a bunch of different tabs.
  • Analytics & insights. SocialBee and other scheduling tools analyze your content performance and extract useful insights that you can feed back into your posting schedule. For example, you get suggestions for best times to post based on when your audience is most active and likely to engage.
  • Content creation. Most scheduling tools come with features to help you create and curate content, making it easier to fill out your posting schedule and maintain a consistent presence. These features might include design integrations, content discovery tools, AI caption or image generation, a built-in media library, etc.

Scheduling posts with SocialBee

Here’s a step-by-step guide that shows you how to schedule posts on Bluesky with SocialBee

Note: This is the simplest way to schedule Bluesky posts with SocialBee but keep in mind that it also offers advanced scheduling tools like bulk scheduling, category-based scheduling, AI strategy generation, cross-posting features, etc. We’ll look at these advanced options in the tips section later on.

Step 1: Sign up and connect your Bluesky account

First, sign up for SocialBee (you can get started with a 14-day free trial) and log in to your account.

Click here to sign up for your free trial.

The first time you log in, you’ll be prompted to connect your social profiles.

Connect your Bluesky account as well as any other profiles and pages you want to manage. You’ll then be brought to the SocialBee dashboard.

Step 2: Create a post

From the top of the dashboard, click Add Post to open up the post composer.

Then, select your Bluesky account (and any other socials you want to post it to) at the top.

Write your post caption in the text box, and click Add a photo or video to upload any media you want to add to the post.

You can add hashtags and emojis using the buttons at the bottom of the text box. Plus, click the AI button to generate captions or images from scratch.

If you’re publishing the post to multiple profiles, you can customize it for each platform. Just click Customize for each profile.

Step 3: Choose when to post it

Underneath When to post, click Add a posting time.

Then, select the date and time you want SocialBee to publish the post to Bluesky in the calendar.

SocialBee highlights suggested times in yellow. These are the times when your posts are most likely to perform well, based on your historical performance data.

Instead of choosing a specific date, you also have the option of adding your post to a content Category queue. I’ll explain more about this feature in the tips section below.

Once you’re done, click Save post, and you’re done. SocialBee will auto-publish the post to your Bluesky account at the time and date you chose.

You can view, edit, delete, and manage all your scheduled posts from the Next Posts section of SocialBee.

Other third-party social media schedulers that support Bluesky

We recommend using SocialBee as it’s the best social media scheduler on the market, but it’s not your only option.

There are a few other great social media publishing tools that also integrate with Bluesky that you might want to use instead. Here’s an overview of each of them.

Pallyy

Pallyy can be used to create and schedule posts on Bluesky, as well as other networks like Instagram, Threads, X (Twitter), TikTok, YouTube, etc.

It has a great user interface and a more visually-oriented workflow than SocialBee. In particular, I like how you can drag and drop photos and videos from your media library onto dates in the calendar to schedule them.

However, you can’t schedule content categories like you can on SocialBee, and its AI tools aren’t as sophisticated either.

Aside from scheduling tools, Pallyy also gives you other social media management tools including a unified social inbox, analytics, bio link tool, and more.

Metricool

Metricool is another comprehensive social media management platform that lets you schedule multiple posts to all your social profiles from one place, including Bluesky.

It has a generous free plan that lets you plan up to 50 posts per month. And unlike SocialBee’s free trial, Metricool’s free plan is free for life.

I also like Metricool’s content calendar. It’s colored-coded to show at a glance which times/days your posts are likely to perform better or worse, which is pretty neat.

And you get a lot of other tools aside from scheduling. With Metricool, you can also respond to all your social comments and messages in one place, analyze metrics, research your competitors, and more.

That said, it doesn’t have anything like SocialBee’s AI copilot, and I don’t think you can organize posts into categories like you can on SocialBee—you have to schedule everything individually.

Vista Social

Vista Social is a little more expensive than SocialBee, with a higher starting price. However, you get a lot for your money.

Like SocialBee, you can use Vista Social to schedule and publish posts to multiple platforms including Bluesky, X, Instagram, etc.

It has some great content curation features, including a powerful UGC discovery tool.

You also get other advanced features you don’t get on SocialBee, including social listening, review management, and employee advocacy tools.

Tips for effective scheduling on Bluesky

Before we wrap up, here are a few advanced tips and tricks to help you schedule Bluesky posts more efficiently and optimize your content strategy.

Organize your posts into categories

Earlier, I showed you how to schedule Bluesky posts individually with SocialBee.

However, there’s a much faster and more efficient way to schedule—by organizing your posts into content categories.

First, click the Content tab in your SocialBee sidebar. Then, click Create Category to create a few different logical categories to group your posts into.

organize your posts into categories content

You might have different categories for different types of posts (e.g. promotional, funny, educational, memes, etc.) or different post formats (e.g. videos, images, text posts, threads, etc.).

Once you’ve set up your categories, you can click them, then click Add post to this category to start filling them with posts.

organize your posts into categories add post to this category

Next, click on Schedule Setup in the sidebar. From here, we can set up weekly posting slots to schedule whole categories at once.

organize your posts into categories schedule setup

For example, let’s say you want to share a promotional post every Wednesday at 10 AM. Select that slot in the calendar, then choose Promotional under Select category, and select your Bluesky profile.

organize your posts into categories promotional

Now, every week at 10 AM on Wednesday, SocialBee will share a post from that category on Bluesky. By default, the last post you add to the category will be the first to get shared, but you can change the order they’re ‘queued up’ as needed.

Set up evergreen posting cycles

Another neat thing you can do with SocialBee is recycle your evergreen posts so that they get shared again and again at regular intervals. This is useful for content that isn’t time-sensitive.

When you’re scheduling a post, or creating a category, just select Re-queue after posting.

set up evergreen posting cycles re queue after posting

SocialBee will then re-add the post to the bottom of the content queue after it shares it so that it goes out again at a later date. You can create post variations to keep things fresh.

The posting cycle will continue indefinitely until the post is deleted or it expires. You can set it to expire a certain number of times after it was published or on a specific date.

Use SocialBee’s AI copilot

SocialBee’s social media copilot is the most powerful AI assistant of any scheduler I’ve tried.

It can build your entire social media strategy in seconds and save you months of work.

Just open it up in the sidebar then answer the chatbot’s questions about your audience, goals, brand, etc.

use socialbee’s ai copilot powerful ai assistant

Based on the information you provide, it will devise some relevant content categories and create an optimal posting schedule personalized to your audience.

Then, it’ll generate engaging posts from scratch (including images) to fill your content category queues with, so you have weeks of content in your pipeline ready to go.

Set up approval workflows

When you or your team members schedule a new Bluesky post, you can choose whether they’re set as approved or drafted.

Those saved as drafts won’t be shared until they’re approved. And they can be manually approved via the Content Approval tab.

This comes in useful if, for example, you manage the Bluesky accounts of brands and you want your clients to have the final say on all the content you schedule. Or if you work with a team of writers and you want to cast your eye over their work before it goes live.

Post at the optimal time

It’s super important to make sure you share your Bluesky posts at the time when your target audience is most active and likely to engage with them.

Doing so will give them the best chance of gaining traction in the algorithm so they perform better than they might otherwise.

Most social media schedulers offer the best time to post suggestions, including SocialBee. However, these suggestions are based on your historical data.

So, the more data you have, the more accurate those suggestions will be. As such, it’s a good idea to experiment with lots of different posting times initially to try out different timeslots and see what works best.

Conclusion

That completes my guide to scheduling posts on Bluesky.

To recap, Bluesky doesn’t offer any native scheduling features, so you’ll need to use a third-party scheduler that integrates with Bluesky instead.

The best option is SocialBee. It has a bunch of powerful features including category-based scheduling, evergreen post recycling, and an AI copilot.

Just create your post and (optionally) add them to a category, then choose the date/time you want them to be published in the content calendar, and let SocialBee do the rest.
