It hit the 2 billion milestone in 2020, and it seems likely it has increased since then. Statista estimates that the true figure as of the end of 2024 is close to 2.9 billion.

WhatsApp has significantly more users than any other messenger app. Its closest competitor is Chinese messaging service WeChat, which has 1.3 billion monthly active users.

The best we have to go off is estimates based on the data we do have. According to those estimates, WhatsApp earned around $1.3 billion in annual revenue last year. That’s less than 1% of Meta’s total yearly revenue.
